The permanent members of the UN Security Council called on all Yemenis to "exercise restraint and end all acts of violence immediately and engage in a constructive dialogue to resolve their differences peacefully," following the violence in the southern city of Aden on Wednesday morning, which killed three people and wounded nine.

Diplomatic representatives crossed into Yemen of China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States, expressed in a statement issued late Wednesday deeply concerned about the recent violent escalation in the city of Aden, which is being taken by the internationally recognized Yemeni government as the interim capital of the country.

The five permanent members of the Security Council affirmed their commitment to support a secure and stable future for all Yemenis and a comprehensive political process under the relevant UN resolutions, the Gulf Initiative, its executive mechanism and the outcome document of the National Dialogue Conference.

At least two people were killed and dozens injured earlier in the day in clashes between southern separatists and the presidential guards in Aden, according to medics and residents.
