A Lebanese official confirmedon Monday the death of Houthi interior minister, General Abdul Hakim al-Mawiri, at a Beirut hospital Saturday.
On Saturday, the Houthi group said the 60-year-old general had died of incurable disease, while receiving medication at a Lebanese hospital.
Mawiri has arrived in Lebanon for medical treatment before his death, the official told Reuters without further details.
Amid conflicted reporters on causes of his death, media quoted informed sources as saying that the Houthi senior official has died of wounds he sustained on17 April last year in a Saudi-led coalition airstrike on the Sana'a-based interior ministry.
While the Houthi group has given no details on the minister's evacuation to Lebanon, with all land and air ports under the internationally-recognized government's control, the sources said he was secretly airlifted to Beirut on a UN plane one month ago.
