Aden (Debriefer) - Aden newly appointed governor on Thursday arrived in the Yemeni interim capital in compliance with the Riyadh Agreement inked between the internationally-recognized government and Southern Transitional Council (STC), Yemeni sources said, although the STC paused talks on applying the pact.
Ahmed Hamid Lamlas arrived at Aden airport on a Saudi charter plane coming from Riyadh.
On 29 July, Saudi Arabia declared a new mechanism to accelerate the application of the Kingdom-sponsored Riyadh deal between the Yemeni government and the STC.
Under the deal and its mechanism, the STC abandoned its self-governance, new governor and security director were appointed for Aden, and the current premier was mandated to form a technocrat government within 30 days, including STC-nominated ministers.
The new pact also provided for ceasefire be held on, armed forces be sent out of Aden, and both sides' troops in Abyan be disengaged to redeployed in their previous sites.
On Tuesday, the STC suspended participation in ongoing negotiations with the Yemeni official government on the application of the Riyadh Agreement and its accelerating mechanism.
The STC sent a letter to Saudi Arabia listing the reasons for its suspension.
On Wednesday, government official said a Saudi committee started new moves to contain the recent obstruction to the pact's application.
The panel met with the Yemeni Parliament speaker Sultan al-Barakani, board of advisors to President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, and STC representatives to address the latest developments and the reasons listed by the STC for its suspended talks, the official told al-Araby al-Jadeed.
