BAYDA (Debriefer)--The Ansar Allah group, known as the Houthis, on Thursday launched desperate attacks against the forces of the internationally recognised government in an attempt to recapture the district of Az Zahir and other areas in Yemen's Bayda province which it lost in recent days.

It attacked the district from all directions with various weapons, including explosives-laden drones, local sources said.

The government forces repelled the attacks and fought back, they said, adding that fighters from both sides were killed and injured.

Houthis were arrested, including the logistics officer in the province Hisham Al-Ashwal and the information centre director Ali Al-Sharafi, they said, pointing out that the commander of the pro-government Al-Amajid Brigade Brig. Gen. Saleh Al-Shajiri and other army officers survived a ballistic missile attack by the group.

On Friday, the government, with support from the Saudi-led coalition, launched an offensive to liberate Bayda from the Iran-allied Houthis.

Its forces have advanced on various front-lines, retaking areas and killing many Houthis. They are now pushing deeper into the capital city, Bayda.
