Sana'a (Debriefer) The Houthi group on Monday kicked off a new campaign to mobilize fighters, the largest for years, hours after the UN Security Council discussed the Yemeni crisis in light of latest developments.
Launched by chairman of the Houthi Supreme Political Council (HSPC), Mahdi al-Mashat, the 'Yemen Cyclone' recruitment campaign is meant to mobilize fighters and funding.
The declared campaign was attended by senior political and military leaders including parliament speaker (Yahiya al-Raie), prime minister (Abdul Aziz Bin Habtoor), chairman of judicial council (Ahmed al-Mutawakil) and chairman of Shura council (Mohamed al-Eidaroos), the Sana'a-based Saba said, indicating the significance of the campaign.
Under Mashat directives, the campaign needs to target all the public and elite levels "in the face of the aggression," the Houthi-run news agency added.
All the State institutions should play "effective role in mobilization," the HSPC chairman said, calling on Yemeni people to "react with the campaign in support of the army and public committees in fighting the unfair aggression."
He also gave strict orders for all senior officials, ministers and members of parliament and Shura council to make field visits to all provinces urging contribution to the mobilization campaign.
"The dire American blockade and its escalated crimes against Yemeni people prove that they are far away from peace, and that their words are in conflict with their deeds," Mashat said.
The Houthi leader vowed a severe response to the "American crimes" according to available tools.
For observers, the Houthi campaign is a negative message to the United Nations and international community on the group's position at ending the war and internationally-led peace efforts.
Next week, the UN will start a new round of talks with all Yemeni parties, said the UN special envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, in a bid to bring different viewpoints closer and push warring parties into stopping the war and engaging in political negotiations.
