Saudi Arabia's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir said on Friday that there is a possibility of calming the situation in Yemen as a prelude to reaching a settlement in the four-year conflict.
Al-Arabiya TV quoted al-Jubeir as saying: “There is a possibility to calm down the situation that will be followed by a settlement in Yemen."
At the end of November, Saudi Arabia released a group of Yemeni prisoners belonging to the Houthis (Ansar Allah), in a move that could support efforts to end a war that has killed tens of thousands and pushed millions to the brink of starvation.
Yemen has been racked by an armed conflict that broke out after the Iranian-backed Houthis had ousted the internationally-recognized government late in 2014.
The conflict escalated after a Saudi-led coalition intervened militarily in the country in March 2015 to reinstate the government of President Hadi.
