RIYADH (Debriefer)--The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen said on Wednesday its air defences intercepted and shot down a Houthi explosives-laden drone over the Saudi province of Jizan.
We are taking necessary operational measures to prevent the Houthi group from targeting civilians and civilian objects, it said.
The Houthi group has recently intensified its drone and missile attacks against Saudi Arabia which has been fighting in support of Yemen's internationally recognised government.
Most attacks have targeted the province of Khamis Mushait in recent weeks, according to the coalition. The Houthis have launched more than 1.000 ballistic missiles and explosives-laden drones into Saudi Arabia in the past six years, it said days ago.
On Friday, the US said it was withdrawing troops, warplanes and missile batteries from Saudi Arabia, in a move which Saudis said will not affect their defence capabilities.
