Houthis say their air defenses shoot down coalition drone MQ-1 in Sanaa

Yemen's Houthis group (Ansar Allah) said it had shot down an Saudi-led Arab coalition` drone in the sky of the capital Sanaa.

The Houthi-run Al-Masirah channel on Friday reported that the Air defense of the Yemeni army had dropped the US drone of the MQ-1-Type, belonging to the coalition, while was carrying out espionage operations in the sky of the capital Sanaa.

Al-Masirah confirmed that the air defenses targeted a modern hostile drone aircraft using a suitable weapon in Hamdan district of Sanaa.

As there has been no comment from the Saudi-led Arab coalition forces or Saudi Arabia so far, Al-Masirah channel has Video footage released by the military media of the army forces showed the moment when the U.S. MQ-9- unmanned aircraft over the sky of Hamdan district outskirt of Sanaa province.

The aircraft is the third of its kind announced shot down by the Houthis.

Houthis said their air defense had dropped  the US  unmanned aircraft of the MQ-9-Type, belonging to the coalition on October 1, 2017, in the capital Sanaa.

According to the Houthi Media Center, after the drone had been shoot, it has been observed that coalition warplanes deliberately and intensively fly high on the upper sky of the capital, launched an airstrike on Al-Isteqbal camp in Hamdan directorate.  

Yemen has been racked by an armed conflict that broke out after the Iranian-backed Houthis had ousted the internationally recognized government late in 2014.

The conflict escalated after a Saudi-led coalition, in which Kuwait is a partner, intervened militarily in the country in March 2015 to reinstate the government of President Hadi.

The war has pushed the country to the world's worst humanitarian crisis, according to the UN, with most of the population in need for a type of humanitarian aid and immediate protection, including 8.4 million people unsure how to get next meal, and some 2 million children suffering severe shortage of nutrition.
