Riyadh (Debriefer) - The Saudi-led coalition on Tuesday announced the interception and destruction of a Houthi bomb-laden drone heading for the Saudi southern airport of Abha.
The plane interception caused shrapnel to scatter in the airport's vicinity, leaving no losses, the Arab coalition said in a statement carried by Saudi media.
"The Houthi escalation in the form of targeting civilians was planned by leaders of Iran's Revolutionary Guards in Sana'a," the statement added.
On Monday, the Saudi-led coalition said its defenses intercepted a bomb-laden drone systematically sent by the Houthis to deliberately targets civilians and civilian objects in Saudi lands.
The Houthis have recently stepped up attacks on Saudi targets, using missiles and drones, in what they say "response to the coalition's continuous air raids and detention of oil tankers."
The Iran-backed group tried to target Abha airport 12 times since 2018, with the attacks' pace increasing whenever geopolitical changes occur in the region, according to Asharq Al-Awsat.
