Socotra (Debriefer) - The Southern Transitional Council's (STC's) forces released the training officer of Socotra military police affiliated to the Yemeni government troops on Wednesday after one day of detention in the southern island.
First Lieutenant Saeed al-Da'iea was freed following a sit-in staged by civilians outside the special forces camp calling for his release, local sources said.
On Tuesday, Emirati-backed STC gunmen kidnapped the military police officer and took him to unknown place, local sources said then.
Socotra archipelago is witnessing significant tensions amid serious rift in relations between the official government and its partner, the STC.
Socotra has been under STC forces' control since June 2020, after forcing the government-appointed governor out of the strategic island.
The United Arab Emirates has recently carried out controversial activities in Socotra, where Abu Dhabi erected a military base without informing Yemen's official government.
