An official source in the Ansar Allah group (Houthis) told Debriefer that the group released on Monday the former Yemeni Minister of Culture Khaled al-Ruwaishan one day after his arrest.
The Houthi arrest of al-Ruwaishan sparked a wide official and popular criticism campaign, and social networking sites were fueled by tweets and publications condemning the arrest of al-Ruwaishan, who has remarkable popularity among cultural elites.
While the source did not mention to Debriefer the reason for the arrest of Al-Ruwaishan, nor the reason for his release, Al-Arabiya TV said, according to sources, that “the sheikhs of the Khawlan tribes to which Al-Ruwaishan belonged mediated and provided guarantees to the Houthis to release him.”
"The Houthis arrested my father half an hour ago," said Waddah al-Ruwaishan, the son of the arrested minister, in a brief post on his Facebook page at dawn today.
Sources close to the family confirmed that the Houthi group had arrested al-Ruwaishan from his home in Sana'a and took him to an unknown destination, but it said, "He will inevitably be released, it is only a matter of time."
No further details were available on the reasons and circumstances of the arrest operation, whose political anti-Houthi writings are believed to be behind the arresting.
