The Russian President's special envoy for Middle East and Africa, Michael Bogadnove, on Tuesday discussed with chairman of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Eidaroos al-Zobaidi, the situation in south Yemen, following the STC announced self-rule, according to the Sputnik International.
The meeting insisted that measures taken by local authorities should most effectively tackle the local residents' problems, resulted from the recent unprecedented floods, and threats posed by COVID-19 infection in the region, the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement.
At the talks, Zobaidi presented his calculations of military, political and humanitarian developments in south Yemen, including reasons for the self-governance announcement.
Saturday midnight, the Emirati-backed STC announced state of emergency and self-rule in Aden and other southern provinces, effective from Sunday dawn.
"The so-called transitional council refuses to listen to reason and fulfill its onuses under Riyadh pact, and insists on evading and covering its failure by announcing the persistence of its armed rebellion against the State," the Yemeni foreign minister tweeted.
The STC is accountable for "perilous, catastrophic ramifications of this announcement," FM Mohamed al-Hadhrami added.
