Aden (Debriefer) - Yemen's transportation ex-minister on Tuesday warned of efforts aimed to remove President Hadi's powers, by circumventing the Riyadh Agreement signed between the official government and the Emirati-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC).
"While the Riyadh pact provided for a technocrat government, Abdul Malik al-Mikhlafi [Hadi advisor] wrote yesterday about a national unity government," Saleh al-Jabwani tweeted.
"The President's powers would be fully transferred to a government of this kind," the resigned minister added, and "this what the Emirati-funded parties are seeking to achieve.
"These parties have now the same purpose as the STC. Is the President aware of what happening?" he added.
Formation of a "national partnership government under the Riyadh deal is a national interest and a necessity to prevent worsening of the situations and to boost stability in liberated areas," Mikhlafi tweeted on Sunday.
This would also "strengthen the front in the face of Houthis and create real chances to restore the State and bring peace.
"There is a tangible progress made towards the Riyadh pact application and the government formation," the presidential advisor added.
On 29 July, President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi trusted Dr. Maeen Abdulmalek to form a new government, with 20 out of the 24 portfolios shared equally by south and north, as stated in the Saudi-declared Riyadh deal acceleration mechanism.
The mechanism provided for ceasefire and de-escalation be maintained between the government and STC, the STC to abandon self-rule and to apply the Riyadh pact, military forces be redeployed out of Aden, troops of two parties engaged in Abyan to return to their previous sites.
