SANAA (Debriefer)--Iran's envoy to the Houthi-controlled Yemen Hassan Irloo on Wednesday said the US sanctions on him have exposed the real face of the American regime which does not abide by international rules and norms.
The sanctions confirm that I am walking on the right path to face the American and Zionist crimes against the countries of the region, he said.
"We are not afraid of sanctions or death but rather proud of them," he wrote on Twitter.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) said it was designating Irloo for acting on behalf of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force.
It also sanctioned Iran’s Al-Mustafa International University for supporting terrorist groups and being a platform for recruitment efforts. The sanctions came within the US effort to contain the Iranian interference in Yemen and the region.
Irloo arrived in Sanaa in mid-October as Iran's extraordinary envoy to the Houthi group which has been fighting Yemen's internationally recognised government for six years. The group seized power in late 2014.
The government said that the appointment of Irloo violated the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the UN resolutions on Yemen.
