Aden (Debriefer) - The Iranian-backed Houthi group badly uses control of Sana'a City to impose its extremist faith and ideology on the community by coercion, the Yemeni information minister tweeted late on Monday.
The group started separating male students from females in Sana'a-based government universities with concrete walls, Moammar al-Eryani added, dismissing the move as unprecedented.
This measure comes as part of broader repression of freedoms in Houthi-held areas, where woman role in the general life and community largely declined, he said.
The Houthi practices reflect the group's "barbarianism and fruitless attempts to exploit its accidental control over the abducted capital Sana'a and other provinces to impose its extremist faith and ideology on the community by coercion," the minister added.
Eryani called on the international community to support the Yemenis in restoring their country and "getting freed from this dark fate that threatens them and upcoming generations."
The Yemeni capital and many other northern provinces have been under Houthi control since September 2014.
Saudi Arabia has been leading a military coalition in Yemen since 26 March 2015, in support of forces loyal to President Hadi to retake areas controlled by the Iranian-backed Houthi group.
