RIYADH (Debriefer)--The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen said it intercepted and shot down a ballistic missile fired by the Houthi group towards the Saudi city of Khamis Musheit on Thursday evening.
Spokesperson for the coalition Col. Turki Al-Maliki said the attack was deliberately fired to target civilians and that the missile was fired from Yemen's Saada province on the border with Saudi Arabia.
The coalition is taking necessary measures to neutralise qualitative capabilities of the Houthi group, he said, vowing to punish those responsible for terrorist attacks strictly and in accordance with international law.
The group has not commented on the attack, the second against Saudi territories in less than 24 hours.
Earlier on Thursday, the coalition said it intercepted a Houthi explosives-laden drone over Khamis Musheit, a day after an attack on Saudi Abha airport.
A civilian plane caught fire from Wednesday's attack, it said.
The group has escalated its attacks on Saudi Arabia since the US administration said it was planning to revoke the terrorist designation of the group.
