Taiz (Debriefer) - The battles between the Yemeni official government troops and Houthi forces in the northwestern governorate of Taiz on Wednesday expanded to the southern fringes of the city.
This comes days after Taiz Governor Nabil Shamsan declared general mobilization to repel the Iranian-backed Houthi group from the city's eastern, western and southern suburbs and to lift blockade imposed on Taiz.
Meanwhile, Toor al-Baha axis in the neighboring governorate of Lahj declared operation joint with Taiz axis to take areas held by Houthi forces in Haifan and al-Qabaita districts, south Taiz.
The national army swiftly liberated an area of 40 kilometers by retaking 10 military sites that were seized by the Houthis in 2016, according to september.net.
"Among these are areas that were used by the group to fire missiles at five districts and threaten the interim capital, Aden," the defense ministry-run website added.
The government troops shot down a booby-trapped drone while trying to target the national army's joint operations room in Qadas, a district of Taiz, it said.
The liberation operation started and will not stop, whatever the reasons are, until Haifan and neighboring districts are fully freed in coordination with all the military units and resistance heroes in Taiz and Lahj, said Toor al-Baha axis's operation officer.
The fighting left 3 of the fourth infantry brigade's personnel killed and the capture of some Houthi fighters, General Faris al-Hafidhi added.
