Abyan (Debriefer) - The Emirati-backed Security Belt (SB) forces said five of their soldiers were killed in the Yemeni southern governorate of Abyan on Thursday, when gunmen attacked a checkpoint in Ahwar district.
According to medical sources at Ahwar Hospital, the attack toll increased to 12, the Anadolu Agency reported.
"Seven dead bodies and two injures arrived at the hospital, while the other bodies were taken to Abyan's central hospital," the sources added.
The central districts of Abyan see intense spread of al-Qaeda militants.
On 12 March, unknown armed men assassinated one of the SB forces affiliated to the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Modea, another district in Abyan.
Recently, SB forces have been increasingly targeted by Qaeda militants in the governorate, where the Emirati-backed STC forces engaged in fighting with the official government troops.
