Aden (Debriefer) - The Houthi group rejects to receive anti-coronavirus vaccines, deputy health minister in the Yemeni UN-recognized government said Wednesday.
Houthi refusal to receive the vaccine puts at risk the lives of Yemenis living in northern and western provinces under the group's control, Ali al-Walidi added at a WHO-sponsored virtual meeting.
Yemen is suffering from the Covid-19 very negative impact on health, social and economic situations, he said according to the Aden-based Saba.
The Houthi-sparked war worsened insecurity and epidemics in Yemen and led to more displacements, as well as damages to the health system, weakening accessibility, the Yemeni official added.
Earlier, the WHO said the Houthis refused its plan for a joint campaign to vaccinate health workers in areas under the group's control.
Last April, the Sana'a-based ministry of health asked for the vaccine shots to be reduced to 1,000, the WHO said then.
On 20 April, vaccination campaign against Covid-19 was kicked off in Yemen, after the war-torn country received 360,000 shots of AstraZeneca from the COVAX initiative.
