Hodeida (Debriefer) Engineering teams have removed the most dangerous field of landmines in the Yemeni western governorate of Hodeida, the Yemeni Joint Forces (JF) said Monday.
A laser-operated net of mines was laid by the Iranian-backed Houthi group in the southern suburbs of Hais town, JF military source said.
"The net was viciously planted over an area of nearly 100 square meters, with the mines camouflaged" so as to seem natural figures that cannot easily noticed, the source added.
This is one of the most dangerous kind of mines, as they detonate – by means of photic sensors – once anybody passes in front of their laser lens or touches their electric tape, he warned.
The net was laid amid residential compounds in Hais town, some 600 meters away from another minefield that was removed last month, he added.
The JF engineering teams are still surveying the area and nearby farms for more Houthi mines, the source said.
