Libya aims to increase its oil production to 2.1 million barrels per day (bpd) from 953,000 bpd currently, the chairman of the state oil company NOC said on Sunday in Benghazi.
Reaching that target hinges on improving security conditions in the country, Mustafa Sanalla said at a news conference.
He reiterated his calls for ensuring the security of workers to allow for the resumption of production at the 315,000 bpd Sharara oil field which was taken over on Dec. 8 by tribesmen, armed protesters and state guards demanding salary payments and development funds.
