BYADA (Debriefer)--At least 40 Houthi fighters were killed and others wounded in raging battles with the government forces in Yemen's province of Bayda in the past 24 hours, a government army officer said on Monday.
A Saudi-led coalition fighting in the country provided aerial support to the government forces during the battles striking Houthi forces, vehicles and positions, the officer told the information centre of the government's army.
Bodies of the Houthi fighters are scattered on mountains and in fields in the area of Qaniyah, the officer said, adding that Houthi equipment including a BMB vehicle and 23 MM-caliber cannon were destroyed.
The Houthi Group, also known as Ansar Allah, has not commented.
The government forces backed by popular resistance have been fighting the Houthis for six years in Bayda. The battles have recently intensified as the Houthis are seeking to surround oil-rich Marib province.
On Sunday, the Houthi Group said its forces captured the main stronghold of Al-Qaeda and Daesh in the area of Yakla west of the province.
In addition, sources in the group said their forces have captured the strategic Nofan Mountain which overlooks all regions south of Marib.
Taking control of Yakla means cutting off the supply lines from Marib to the Lower Thi Kalib, Upper Thi Kalib, Al-Najd and Liqah Al-Awsat areas and then choking Takfiri groups in the area from two directions, according to the sources.
