SANAA (Debriefer)--The Houthi government on Wednesday criticised remarks by the Saudi ambassador to Jordan on Yemen as a failed attempt to show that Riyadh remains the policeman implementing orders and policies of the White House and US NATO allies in the region.
The ambassador's remarks were just a media attempt to court the US president-elect Joe Biden, Houthi foreign minister Hisham Sharaf said.
Saudi Arabia leads an Arab coalition fighting the Houthis in support of the internationally recognised government since March 2015.
If the Saudi-led coalition withdraws from Yemen, western countries will intervene to fight terrorist groups and stop the Iranian aggression, Saudi ambassador Naif Al-Sudairi said.
Today the international community is aware of the importance of supporting the coalition's efforts to fight terrorist networks, including Daesh and Al-Qaeda, he said, accusing the Houthis of prolonging the war through rejecting calls for political dialogue and defying UN resolutions.
Sharaf accused Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates of using the policy of starvation through practicing all forms of blockade, including holding fuel and LPG ships and closing Sanaa airport, and destroying the Yemeni economy.
"Riyadh's pretext of fighting the Iranian influence in Yemen no longer fools anyone, including countries which have withdrawn from the Saudi-led coalition," Sharaf said.
He called on the Saudi regime to admit its mistakes and stop interfering in Yemen's affairs and providing support to a president whose term ended a long time ago.
"Yemen will never accept guardianship or to be subjugated to regional or international powers".
