SANAA (Debriefer)--The Houthi specialised criminal court on Saturday handed down death sentences to 24 officials of the internationally recognised government on charges of committing crimes harming the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the republic of Yemen.

The officials included prime minister Maeen Abdulmalik, current and former governors of the Central Bank of Yemen Munassar Al-Quaiti and Mohammed Zimam, advisors to president Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, ministers, province governors, MPs, diplomats, army chiefs and officers and an official in the southern transitional council.

The court also ruled to confiscate the properties of the officials, according to pro-Houthi media outlets.

The Houthi group ousted the government and seized power in September 2014. Its takeover triggered a civil war and a Saudi-led military intervention that have been continuing for six years. The conflict has caused what the UN describes as the world's largest humanitarian crisis.

Recently, the group held trials in absentia for president Hadi, vice president Ali Mohsen, and world leaders and military chiefs including the US president, Saudi king, UK prime minister and military chiefs and others.

Moreover, it sentenced to death Yemeni journalists and activists, and held trials for members of the Baha'I faith.
