Abyan (Debriefer) - The Yemeni southern governorate of Abyan witnessed early on Thursday renewed infighting between the official government and the Southern Transitional Council (STC).
The hostilities were prompted by mutual shelling using heavy weapons in Sheikh Salem and Tariah fronts east Zinjobar city, Abyan's provincial capital, local sources said.
Four government troops were killed and 7 others injured in the clashes, spokesman for the Emirati-backed STC forces tweeted.
The STC forces in coastal strip fended off "hostile acts attempted by government troops," Mohamed al-Naqib added.
No immediate comment has been released by the official government on the STC report about recent fighting.
On Wednesday, the STC accused the government troops of sending more reinforcements "consisting of Qaeda and Daesh militants" to Abyan.
