Taiz (Debriefer) - The Yemeni UN-recognized government troops have made significant advancement in Maqbana and al-Ma'afir, two districts in the southwestern governorate of Taiz, military source said Tuesday, after fighting with Houthi fighters.
The national army retook control of al-Mamtar Mont (the last stronghold of the Houthis in al-Kowaiha area) and route leading to al-Toair that is currently witnessing fierce battles in Maqbana district, the source added.
In al-Ma'afir district, the government troops seized al-Ra'ei hill, Derkhaf valley and the two mountains of al-Darb and Alaqa in al-Kadaha area, according to the source.
The army also recaptured a tank and armored vehicle, he added, as confrontations are still raging with the Houthis.
On Monday, the national army said its troops retook control of the two strategic sites of al-Khalil and al-Cheki in al-Ma'afir, and the two villages of al-Qasha'a and Mafraq al-Matahin and al-Qaeda hill in Maqbana.
Last Wednesday, the national army launched a military campaign against Houthi fighters in response to public and official calls following the Houthi escalation in Marib.
