Hodeida (Debriefer) - A Houthi senior officer has been killed, media center of the Yemeni Joint Forces (JF)-affiliated Giant Brigades said Tuesday, as the JF foiled an attempted advance by the Iranian-backed group in Yemen's western governorate of Hodeida.
The JF stopped Houthi moves and attempted infiltration in Hais district, southeastern Hodeida, using "decisive blows that left senior leader, called Obadi Abdul Bari al-Gholaisi, and other fighters killed," the center added on Twitter.
An inhabitant from al-Jarahi district, Gholaisi was appointed by the group as a supervisor of armed throngs in Hais district, according to the center.
Separately, the "Houthis sustained a severe loss in al-Doraihimi district, south Hodeida, where a number of their militants were killed or injured by JF gunfire in retaliation for the death of a civilian and injury of another," the center tweeted.
For their part, the group accused the JF of committing 152 breaches of Hodeida ceasefire in the last 24 hours.
These breaches were in the form of bombs jettisoned by spy drones; soars by 11 spy drones over Kilo-16, al-Faza, al-Jabalia, al-Jah and al-Tohaita; 20 artillery shells; and 120 bullets from different machineguns, Houthi media reported.
Parties to the 6-year war in Yemen, after 8 days of peace talks in Sweden, reached on 13 December 2018 an agreement providing for ceasefire in Hodeida and redeployment of both sides' forces and allowing for UN leading role in the port city.
But none of this has taken place so far, with both sides trading blames for trying to thwart the deal.
