AFEN (Debriefer)--The Southern Transitional Council said on Tuesday it rejects a leaked presidential decision relieving the Commander of the Special Forces in Yemen's interim capital Aden and provinces of Abyan, Lahij and Dhale Maj. Gen. Fadhl Baesh of his duties.

The decision, dated March 19, has been circulated by social media activists.

The Spokesperson for the Council Ali Al-Kathiri accused the Presidency of the Republic of leaking the decision, affirming the decision has been unilaterally made and is rejected altogether.

Unilateral decisions are blowing up the spirit and content of the Riyadh agreement and are evidence that the Yemeni Legitimate Government hijacked by the Muslim Brotherhood is targeting the southern cause and people, he said.

The UAE-backed Council is participating in the internationally recognised government.

It is controlling Aden and other southern regions.

In August 2019, the then Minister of Interior Ahmed Al-Maisari fired Baesh and appointed a new commander of the Special Forces. President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi approved the decision but Baesh refused to leave his post.

In late 2020, Baesh appointed a chief of the Special Forces in Abyan, in a preemptive move before the arrival of pro-Hadi forces in the province in accordance with the Riyadh agreement. The Ministry of Interior responded by saying Baesh had been fired.
