SANAA (Debriefer)--11 Yemeni fishermen returned to the western province of Hudaydah on Tuesday after they were released from Saudi prisons, the Ansar Allah group, known as the Houthis, said.
Saudi Arabia, which leads a military coalition in Yemen, detained the fishermen for more than 40 days, the group said in a statement carried by the Sanaa-based Saba news agency.
They were abducted in international waters in the Red Sea, taken to a prison in the Saudi area of Farasan where they were interrogated and tortured for 9 days, and later transferred to a prison in the Saudi province of Jizan, the agency said, pointing out that their boats and equipment were confiscated.
The Houthi chairman of the Yemeni Red Sea Fisheries Authority Hashim Al-Dani'e condemned inhumane practices and maritime piracy by Saudi forces against Yemeni fishermen.
Yemeni fishermen have been facing harsh conditions since the war escalated following the Saudi-led intervention in March 2015.
They have appealed several times to international organisations to put pressure on the coalition to stop its attacks on them and pay reparations for their losses.
