SANAA (Debriefer)--Senior Houthi leader Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi on Tuesday called on the international community to hear his group's vision to end the Yemeni crisis.
"We have a vision of solution and peace and we are requesting the Security Council to hear it," he wrote on Twitter.
Yemen has been embroiled in an armed conflict since the Iran-allied Houthi group ousted the internationally recognised government and seized the capital Sanaa in late 2014. The conflict escalated after a Saudi-led coalition intervened militarily to restore the government in March 2015, causing what the UN describes as the world's largest humanitarian crisis.
The United Nations Security Council is set to hold a meeting on Yemen on May 12, with a special focus to be given to the situation in Marib amid a Houthi offensive to seize the oil-rich province.
In March, the group turned down a Saudi initiative to end war, which included a nationwide ceasefire, resumption of UN-sponsored political process and providing political and economic support to Yemen.
The group insists on its vision to end the crisis which includes a ceasefire in three stages, ending Saudi-led airstrikes, cessation of hostilities on contact lines and then ending war on all front-lines, a diplomatic source told Debriefer.
The group has demanded international guarantees before going to any serious talks, the source said, adding that the international community is mulling over action, maybe at the upcoming meeting of the Security Council, to make the Houthis accept peace calls and engage constructively in the negotiations.
