The Southern Transitional Council (STC) is prepared for the worst possibilities, head of the STC local leadership in Dhalea said Monday, as the "decision of self-rule in southern provinces won't be reversed."

After taking the autonomy decision, "we have great responsibility to implementing it appropriately. We are prepared for the worst potentials," Abdullah Mahdi Saeed added in a statement.

"Today, we're facing many enemies, from many directions, and we have the duty for shouldering the responsibility to our people."

The decision comes in response to the Yemeni official government's "huge provocations against southerners, evasion from the application of the Riyadh Agreement, and failure to positively address calls for improved living conditions."

Saturday midnight, the STC announced state of emergency and self-government in Aden and other southern provinces, effective from Sunday dawn.

Later on Sunday, local authorities of six (out of eight) Yemeni southern governorates rejected the STC announcement, expressing loyalty to the Yemeni legitimacy and President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

On Monday, the Saudi-led coalition backing legitimacy in Yemen also rejected the move, calling for the situations in in south of Yemen be restored as they were before the STC's announcement, and for Riyadh deal be applied in full.

The UN special envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, dubbed the recent change of events as disappointing, and called for de-escalation.
