Yemeni government: continued Houthi attacks on Marib exposes 2.5 million people to danger

RIYADH (Debriefer)--The Yemeni government on Saturday called on the United Nations Security Council and Human Rights Council to hold an emergency meeting on Houthi military escalation in Marib province and its repercussions on the civilians including hundreds of thousands of internally displaced families.

It urged the international community to take immediate action to prevent massacres against people and tribes in the province.

"Targeting Marib by the Houthis means targeting the Yemeni state and is exposing 2.5 million people to grave dangers," the human rights ministry said in a statement.

The international community has always used the term "humanitarian" for the situation in Hodeidah province but is silent towards what is happening in Marib, it said.

"This is a flagrant double standard".

The ministry condemned Houthi attacks on densely populated areas in Marib with ballistic missiles, criticising the silence of world human rights agencies.
