Riyadh (Debriefer) - The United States absolutely rejects any harm to Yemen's unity, security, stability and sovereignty, Deputy Chief of Mission for the US embassy to Yemen said Thursday.
Washington supports Yemen's legitimate government and its republican regime, Cathy Westley added at meeting with the Yemeni Parliament speaker, Sultan al-Barakani.
The US fully supports the efforts exerted by Saudi Arabia and the Riyadh Agreement that serves as the cornerstone for the political-economic process and would tackle humanitarian situations in Yemen, she said.
The US diplomat's remarks come as Yemen's unity risks split sought by the Emirati-backed Southern Transitional Council that has already forced the UN-recognized government out of its interim capital and Socotra.
After its announcement of state of emergency and self-government on 26 April in Aden and other southern provinces under its control, the STC on 19 June seized and imposed self-rule in the Socotra archipelago.
On 29 July, Riyadh said the government and STC inked a mechanism to accelerate the stalled application of Riyadh Agreement.
The mechanism was expected to lead to the formation of a new government and defuse the tensions within one month, but so little progress has been made in this regard after two months.
