SANAA (Debriefer)--The Houthi group, also known as Ansarullah, has criticised the United Nations for ignoring the talk about the salaries of military and security personnel in Yemen.
The UN is following a war of Saudi-led coalition against the military and security institutions in the country, senior Houthi leader, Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi, wrote on Twitter on Saturday. The coalition has been fighting the Houthis in support of the government since March 2015.
All UN proposals have only mentioned salaries of public servants, he said.
"Does the UN not know that military and security personnel have families threatened by famine like other families in Yemen?"
The issue of the salaries of the state employees in the Houthi-controlled regions resurfaced a year ago. It has been discussed in UN-sponsored talks between the government and the group.
Earlier this year, the two sides agreed to pay military and security personnel and public servants from the revenues of Hodeidah seaports. A mechanism to do that was agreed. But nothing has been done on the ground.
Employees in the Houthi-run regions, around 1.2 million, have not received their salaries since the central bank of Yemen was relocated to Aden in September 2016.
Three months ago, a campaign was launched on social media platforms in solidarity with them.
The warring parties have ignored the campaign and continued to trade blame for failure to pay wages.
