Abyan (Debriefer) - The Yemeni UN-recognized government troops have resumed violating the ceasefire in the southern governorate of Abyan, spokesman for the Emirati-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) tweeted on Saturday.
"The Muslim Brotherhood militias resumed its breaches after one of its key leaders in al-Qaeda, Mustafa Mahdi (called Abu al-Zobair), and four of his bodyguards were captured in Dofas checkpoint," Mohamed al-Naqib added.
Serving as the deputy commander of a government brigade, Abu al-Zobair is "one of the most dangerous terrorist leaders and an Amir of al-Qaeda," he said.
On Thursday, the deputy commander of the Presidential Guard third brigade was arrested at an STC checkpoint, Yemeni sources said Friday, while the man was travelling from Abyan to Aden.
The reasons behind the arrest were not known, said the sources.
The interim capital was seized by STC forces in August 2019, after fierce battles with the official government troops that were forced out of Aden.
