MARIB (Debriefer)--Clashes between the government and Houthi forces continued to flare up in Yemen's northeastern province of Marib on Monday.

The Houthis have made advances in the areas of Shafan, Al-Dirah, Jabal Al-Safra'a and Al-Hanaya in the districts of Madghal and Raghwan northwest of Marib during the past 24 hours, Houthi sources said.

The Houthi forces in the districts of Raghwan and Majzar in the north are seeking to coalesce with other forces in the districts of Harib Al-Qaramish, Serwah and Madghal in the northwest within the push towards the Marib city, a Houthi military source said.

A government army officer has denied Houthi gains, saying the government forces backed by tribal fighters have repelled attacks in several areas.

The Houthi forces have suffered a heavy setback  during the battles, losing many fighters and military equipment, the officer said.

They are committing suicide, the officer said, adding that dozens of Houthi fighters have been killed in every infiltration attempt.
