ABYAN (Debriefer)--Clashes between the forces of the internationally recognised government and the southern transitional council have renewed in Yemen's southern province of Abyan as the two sides are trading accusations of military escalation to obstruct the implementation of the Riyadh agreement.
The two sides have been holding talks for months in the Saudi capital Riyadh to form a new government and agree on military and security arrangements in accordance with the agreement.
They fought the fiercest battles in months on Monday in the areas of Al-Tariyah and Shuqra, local sources said, adding that at least 6 STC fighters were killed and 8 others injured in the fighting.
The fighting is continuing, according to the sources.
The UAE-backed council accused the government forces of attacking a position of its forces in Shuqra in an attempt to advance and impose a new field reality.
