Aden (Debriefer) - Yemen's official deputy minister of health on Thursday highlighted the need for supporting the Covid-19 isolation centers and the medical teams at hospitals to ensure continuous provision of services and healthcare for patients in the war-torn country.
At his meeting with WHO Representative for Yemen, Ali al-Walidi briefed Altaf Musani on the current health situation in Yemen amid the pandemic, according to the Riyadh-based Saba.
Since its occurrence in Yemen, Covid-19 infected 2,068 people in government-held areas, including 604 deaths and 1,378 recoveries.
The Yemeni and WHO officials also discussed the reoccurrence of polio in the northern Houthi-held governorate of Sa'ada (after Yemen had been declared free of the disease) and possible spread to neighboring areas inside and outside Yemen.
Polio reoccurred after the Houthi group denied vaccination teams access to provinces under its control, Dr. Walidi said.
Musani stated that the WHO is exerting efforts to provide the necessary requirements within the limits of available support given by donors.
