Mukalla (Debriefer) - Security force in the southeastern governorate of Hadhramout on Sunday arrested a leading politician of the Southern Revolutionary Movement Supreme Council (SRMSC) over unknown causes.
Security elements, thought to be of the Southern Transitional Council's (STC's) Hadhrami Elite, arrested Mohamed Abdullah BaMathqal outside his workplace in BaSharhil Hospital, local source said.
The arrest of SRMSC deputy chairman in Hadhramout is "strange and suspicious" act not based on legal facts, SRMSC said in a statement on Facebook.
The statement "strongly" deplored the arrest, and warned of illegally keeping the politician in custody.
While it calls for separation of the south from Yemen, the SRMSC has some stances opposing the Emirati policies in the country, leaving its leaders at risk of STC harassments.
