RIYADH (Debriefer)--Vice president Lt. Gen. Ali Mohsen Al-Ahmar on Wednesday accused the Houthi Group of obstructing the implementation of the Stockholm agreement which was signed by Yemen's internationally recognised government and the group in late 2018.
The government has made many concessions to translate the agreement into realities on clear bases but the Houthis have deliberately obstructed it, he said at a meeting with Daniela Kroslak, the Deputy Head for the United Nations Mission to support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA).
The agreement included terms on a ceasefire and redeployment of forces of both sides into locations outside the city of Hodeidah and Hodeidah, Al-Saleef and Ras Isa ports. At the end of UN-sponsored talks in Sweden in December 2018, the two sides also reached understanding on Taiz province and an agreement to release all prisoners.
The killing of Col. Mohammed Al-Sulayhi, member of the government team in the redeployment coordination committee, by a Houthi sniper and other breaches by the group have proved the Houthis are not serious about implementing the terms of the agreement, he said.
They have been exploiting the agreement to mobilise more fighters to other warfronts, he said, calling for further pressure on the group and taking punitive measures against it for breaching the agreement.
Yemen has been devastated by a six-year war conflict which has caused the world's worst humanitarian crisis.
