RIYADH (Debriefer)--Yemen's government on Thursday called on the UN mission to support the Hudaydah agreement to relocate its headquarters from the Houthi-controlled part of Hodeidah city into a neutral place before its team resumes participation in the meetings of the redeployment coordination committee.
It is unacceptable that the UN mission remains controlled by the Houthi group, said foreign minister Mohammed Al-Hadhrami at a meeting with the deputy head of the UN mission Daniela Kroslak.
Months ago, the government suspended its participation in the meetings of the redeployment coordination committee after Col. Mohammed Al-Sulayhi, a member of its team in the committee, was killed by a Houthi sniper.
The committee was formed in accordance with the Stockholm agreement which was signed by the government and the group at the end of UN-sponsored talks in Sweden in late 2018.
UNMHA should be able to assume its duties according to its priorities, and Houthi interference in and obstruction of its job must be stopped, Al-Hadhrami said in a statement carried by the state Saba news agency.
He stressed the importance of investigating Houthi violations, including the killing of Al-Sulayhi, before the talk about the return of the government's team.
The Yemeni government supports the UNMHA but the return of its team before liberating the mission from the Houthis will not change anything on the ground, he said.
Kroslak praised the government's efforts and support to the mission, affirming that the mission will do its best to guarantee the implementation of the Stockholm agreement in a way which serves the peace process in the country.
