Taiz (Debriefer) - Humanitarian groups and activists have called for urgent curfew in the Yemeni southwestern city of Taiz, after the populated city saw awful increase in number of Covid-19 infections.
In the last two weeks, Taiz became one of the three Yemeni governorates most affected by the pandemic, amid dire lack of medical supplies and oxygen cylinders at health facilities.
Last week, Taiz University announced pause of study at all its faculties, and the local authorities instructed stricter precautious measures to counter the pandemic.
Having been sieged for some six years now, Taiz city suffers severe lack of medical supplies and staff, not to mention the absence of isolation centers.
While official statistics say Covid-19 claims 5-10 people daily and infects tens others, medical experts say the actual figures are higher by far.
