Mukalla (Debriefer) - Resumption of flights at the Yemeni eastern airport of Ryan in Hadhramout government has been delayed till next Friday, Yamania airlines said on Saturday.
Ryan airport was expected to be officially reopened for civil aviation on Sunday 28 March, after the facility was fully rehabilitated, according to government and local sources.
Flights to and fro Ryan international airport will be resumed as of 9 April 2021, the Yemeni official airlines said on Facebook.
The Aden-Ryan-Socotra flight route will be commenced, back and forth, it added.
The airport was seized by Emirati troops in 2016, following a swift operation aimed to expel Qaeda militants out of Ryan city that was ruled by the group for months.
The United Arab Emirates then transformed the facility into a military base used by its troops fighting in Yemen, but also set up private jails there.
In June 2019, Abu Dhabi announced withdrawal of its troops from Yemen, ending its military operations in the war-torn country, despite the doubts aroused by some politicians about the claimed pullout.
