SANAA (Debriefer)--Former Yemen's Minister of Defence Maj. Gen. Abdulmalik Al-Sayani died from Covid-19 on Friday.

He died in a hospital in the capital Sanaa where he had been treated for Covid-19 complications for 20 days, local sources said.

Al-Sayani served under the late president Ali Abdullah Saleh for decades. He was accused of exposing the location of Saleh during battles between pro-Saleh forces and the Houthis in late 2017.

Saleh was killed during the battles, four years after he helped the Houthis to seize power and allied with them against the forces of the internationally recognised government and a Saudi-led coalition supporting it.

Top Houthi officials have died from the virus in the past two months, the latest was the architect of the Houthi coup Maj. Gen. Yahya Al-Shami days ago.

The Houthi group has been hiding information about the virus outbreak.

Meanwhile, the Saudi-backed government is reporting scores of infections a day as a second wave has hit the provinces under its control.
