Hodeida (Debriefer) The Yemeni Red Sea town of Khokha has received a massive flow of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who left their houses following recent military developments seen by Hodeida governorate.
Southern districts of Hodeida are witnessing huge wave of displacement, deputy director of Hodeida-based IDP camps said.
Some 820 Yemeni families (consisting of more than 4,000 people mostly women and children) fled their homes in the last few days towards Khokha town, Jamal al-Mashra'ie added.
Hundreds of women, children and aged men are now homeless in Khokha streets and neighborhoods and under trees, he said, noting that their "tragic conditions require urgent humanitarian intervention."
Most of these displaced families come from Doraihimi, Tohaita, Jah and Toor districts and from some Hodeida city's neighborhoods, according to Mashra'ie.
The government official warned of potential retaliations by the Iranian-backed Houthi group against civilians still living in areas recently ceded by the Yemeni Joint Forces (JF).
Most of humanitarian agencies have yet to response to calls to relief the affected people, he added, calling on all the relief agencies working in Yemen to provide the IDPs with accommodation and food as winter is setting in.
