According to the latest update by Reuters news agency at least 232,200 people globally have died from COVID-19 and 3,273,418 have been infected by the novel coronavirus that causes it, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in early December. The World Health Organization referred to it as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
81,953 new cases of COVID-19 and 5,318 deaths were reported in the previous day.

Though the outbreak started in China, it has now reached 218 countries and territories. 179 of those have reported fatalities.
