Sana'a (Debriefer) - Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have handed Abyan to al-Qaeda militants, the Houthi-appointed deputy governor of the Yemeni southern governorate said Friday.
Abyan now serves as a battlefield where the Saudi-led coalition's militias and tools are engaged in infighting, leading to collective displacement of hundreds of families, Saleh al-Jonaidi added.
The Houthi official blamed the Kingdom, UAE and their groups for humanitarian consequences of conflict in the governorate, according to the Sana'a-based Saba.
While Abyan has recently witnessed fierce confrontations in the central strip, the two parties infighting there trade blames for repeatedly escalated violence.
Forces affiliated to the Yemeni Vice-president Ali Muhsin al-Ahmar submitted Abyan to al-Qaeda group, Jonaidi claimed, warning of 2011 scenario repetition.
Saudi Arabia supports terrorist groups and provides coverage for their movements in Shoqra and other districts, he added, as the "Saudi funding and support for Qaeda militants have recently been unveiled.
"The coalition countries established camps for terrorist organizations in Wadi Aomaran, a valley located between al-Arqoub and Shoqra in Abyan, to change them into a field for open war."
