Sana'a (Debriefer) - The Houthi foreign ministry on Saturday called for an end to crimes and violations committed by the Saudi-led coalition against Yemen's children during the six years of war.
On 20 November, the world celebrated the Child Day while Yemeni children experience the gravest crimes and violations in form of killing, bombing of schools and hospitals, denying them their rights to health and education, and hindering access to humanitarian assistance, an official at the ministry said in remarks carried by Sana'a-based Saba.
According to UN figures, 12.2 million Yemeni children are in need humanitarian assistances, 5 million under-5 children are malnourished, 1.71 million children are displaced, 2 million are out of school, and others died of lack of vaccines, he added.
The Arab coalition killed more than 3,790 children and injured 4,089 others, the Houthi official said, criticizing the UN Secretary-General for removing the coalition from Shame List.
"This posed setback to the UN efforts in protecting child rights, and gave Saudi Arabia the green light to continue committing war crimes against Yemen's children."
The official called on the UN to relist the coalition in the Shame list, "lest it will be accomplice in killing Yemen's children."
He also called for international pressure to end crimes against Yemeni children and bring the wrongdoers to justice, reiterating his group's commitment to the international humanitarian law, human rights law, and the protection and promotion of child rights in Yemen.
