Muscat (Debriefer) - Oman Sultanate on Tuesday welcomed the Saudi initiative to end the war in Yemen, reiterating its continual efforts to reach political settlement in the neighboring country.
Muscat will continually work with Saudi Arabia, the United Nations and Yemeni stockholders in order to achieve the sought political settlement that would restore Yemen's stability and uphold regional states' interests, the Omani official news agency reported.
On Monday, the Saudi FM declared a new peace initiative to end war and solve the crisis in Yemen, calling on the Yemeni government and the Iranian-backed Houthi group to positively respond.
Under the initiative, an inclusive nationwide ceasefire would directly monitored by the UN, blockade imposed by the Arab coalition on Hodeida port would be partially lifted and Sana'a airport would be reopened for limited destinations, FM Faisal Bin Farhan said.
In return, the Houthi-held port's tax revenues would be deposited into a joint account at the Central Bank of Yemen.
But the Houthis declared reserves at the Saudi offer, which they said does not separate humanitarian aspects from military or political bargain.
The group will keep on talks with Saudi Arabia, Oman and the US to reach a peace deal, as Riyadh "is part of the war and should immediately end the air and sea blockade on Yemen," Houthi spokesman told Reuters.
