Yemen distributes Covid-19 vaccine to healthcare workers

ADEN (Debriefer)--The Ministry of Public Health and Population in Yemen's internationally recognised government on Wednesday started the distribution of Covid-19 vaccine to healthcare workers in regions controlled by the government.

Minister of Public Health and Population Qasem Buhaybih announced the launch of Covid-19 vaccination campaign and regulations.

We are prioritising the healthcare workers during the first stage, he said, according to to the state Saba news agency.

350.000 vaccine doses will be distributed to provinces by well-trained healthcare cadres, Deputy Minister Ali Al-Walidi said.

The government received the first batch of Covid-19 AstraZeneca vaccine, 360.000 doses, through COVAX on 31 March, part of a total of 1.9 million doses the country gets this year.

The government has recently approved an emergency budget of five billion rials to face the second wave of the pandemic.

The Supreme National Emergency Committee for Covid-19 has reported 5.582 cases in regions controlled by the government one year, including 1.083 deaths and 2.128 recoveries.
